The October 16th Meeting will be at Jim Metzger's hanger
Fire at Grove Field
Late at night on the 6th of October, a fire consumed a number of hangars at Grove Field.
A note from CWAA President Robert Pierce
Dear Airport Family,
As many of you know, we’ve recently suffered a tragic loss. Late at night on the 6th of October, a fire consumed a number of hangars at Grove Field. The 2-alarm blaze resulted in the total loss of 10 beloved airplanes, 3 cars, and belongings. On behalf of the Camas-Washougal Aviation Association (CWAA), I want to offer our condolences to all those affected by the fire.
Currently, no specific details about the fire have been released. The port is handling the cleanup, investigation, and eventual rebuilding efforts. It may take some time and it is important to be patient. They plan on keeping as much of the airport open as possible. It will be open daily from 8:00AM to 6:00PM until further notice; a NOTAM exists that reflects this schedule. Until the insurance investigation is complete, the taxiway on the north side of B-row hangars and the south side of C-row hangars will be closed to all traffic. More updates will be distributed as they become available. Pictures of the damage are available on the CWAA Facebook page: www.facebook.com/cwaagrovefield . Please contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns.
Who are we?
We are the Camas Washougal Aviation Association (C.W.A.A.), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that promotes general aviation in the community.
C.W.A.A. supports the long term operation and survival of Grove Field Airport in the Fern Prairie area in Camas, WA.
C.W.A.A. is made up of dedicated members who mentor future pilots, fundraise for the C.W.A.A. Scholarship Program for college students entering into the aviation field or for students interested in attending our Summer Aviation Camp, our members also work closely with the local community and nationwide organizations to promote aviation.
Best of all, not all members of C.W.A.A. are pilots, or own their own plane; you just need to want to have fun and be around a great group of people and aviation (of course). If this sounds like something you would be interested in, then this organization is for you. Come join us!
Interested in what we are all about?
Come join us!
The public is welcomed to join us at our monthly meetings, to see what we are all about.
You do not have to be a pilot, or own a plane to be a member, just be interested in Aviation and join in the fun things we do in and around our community.
Our meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at Grove Field Airport (generally at Jim Metzger's hangar). The meeting begins at 6:30 pm with a potluck dinner. The business meeting follows at 7:00 pm.
(The April 17 meeting will include a guest presentation by Mary Schu about the Jimmy Doolittle Reunion and flying B25s).
